Backtesting with a holdout test Tools
The holdout test judges a system on 2000–2014, then runs it unchanged from 2015 to now against holding the same stocks, and gives one of four verdicts: Passed holdout, Trade-off, No edge or Not enough data. Start from a library of published rules, each with its source and how it differs; sweep up to two parameters on the training period only; save studies, re-checked every month. You set the entry fill, the risk per trade and the costs per side, and every result discloses costs and survivorship bias; a recent window of 1 to 10 years is there too. Tools 20 backtests and 3 sweeps a day and 10 saved studies; Pro 50, 10 and 50.

Options analytics

What do the Tools and Pro plans add, and what do they cost?
Tools, $30 a month or $288 a year, opens every tool with its full data: Filters (the stock screener), watchlist screening and backtests, Clear Cut without a daily limit with likes, comments and price alerts, 15 Discover picks a day on each list, the X monitor and Reddit heat, ratings and news on any stock, market breadth and stance, the morning brief, crypto derivatives and crypto stocks, the AI assistant (10 questions a month) and the Stock read (5 a day). Pro, $49 a month or $468 a year, adds Clear Tape’s own work: the pre-market analysis and key levels, positions, the portfolio overview, trade alerts and the track record, sector maps, the full Options page with its AI read and the AI coach, and larger AI allowances. How current is the data?
Prices can be delayed, and each page says how current its data is. Trading systems run on daily prices after each close. Options data comes from Cboe’s delayed quotes, as of the previous session’s close. Don’t rely on any of it for time-critical trading.
Do the trading systems or backtests tell me what to buy?
No. They apply the rules you choose to daily prices and show where those rules trigger, with the entry, stop and target the rules define. Backtest results are hypothetical: they leave out delisted companies (survivorship bias), and past results don’t predict future results. Every decision is yours.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Clear Tape runs in the browser on a phone or a computer. Installing it as an app is optional, takes a few seconds and needs no app store.
